Purpose: This course focuses on assisting community health nurses to develop the knowledge and skills needed to be effective practice-based preceptors for undergraduate community health nursing students.
Objectives: Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
- Define the role of the community health nurse preceptor
- List characteristics of effective preceptors
- State their personal reasons for interest in the preceptor role
- Identify strategies for initiating and nurturing the student/preceptor partnership
- Assess student learning needs
- Identify appropriate and challenging learning opportunities for student nurses in their practice settings
- Evaluate student performance
- Identify situations when it is appropriate to contact course faculty for assistance or support
- Create positive learning partnerships with student nurses
Successful completion: Successful completion is accomplished by earning a minimum score of 70% for each of the quizzes following individual modules. After completing the evaluation, print your certificate of completion for record-keeping. 1.0 nursing contact hour is awarded for successful completion of each module.
