Purpose:
To enhance knowledge and understanding of interventions that will support and improve the quality of life for both the patient and caregiver.
Target Audience:
Nurses and all health care providers
Objectives:
After completing this course, the learner will be able to:
- Describe the effects of dementia on thinking
- Explain the importance of early diagnosis for both patient and caregiver
- Define what is meant by person-centered care
- List common symptoms of Alzheimer’s Disease and ways to treat symptoms
- Describe specific interventions to support communication, the environment, the activity, the person’s history, and their physical health
- Identify strategies to promote successful mealtime, toileting, communication, bathing and grooming, and sleep as well as ways to help calm a person
