Purpose
To enhance understanding of the prevalence and impact of Alzheimer’s Disease and current approaches to diagnosis and cognitive screening.

Target Audience
Nurses and all health care providers

Objectives
After completing this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Explain the risk factors, causes, incidence, and impact of dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease
  2. Describe reasons why dementia may be difficult to detect in primary care settings
  3. List screening tools for patient evaluation and diagnosis
  4. Identify FDA approved medications and their mechanisms of action
  5. Define lifestyle and health factors that are associated with a lowered risk for dementia
