Registration and Continuing Education Credit: Registration is free to Wisconsin nurses given an access code through participation in the Linking Education and Practice for Excellence in Public Health Nursing Project (LEAP). For more information about LEAP visit: http://www.son.wisc.edu/leap.

The registration fee is $45 for all others.

The modules for this course are taken in order. When you successfully complete a module (i.e., pass the quiz), you will automatically receive access to the next module. After successful completion of all 6 course modules, you will receive a certificate of completion awarding 5.0 ANCC nursing contact hours and 0.5 CEUs.

Purpose
To introduce you to sources and uses of epidemiological data to guide the need, implementation, and evaluation of public health programs.

Target Audience
Public health nurses

Objectives
After completing this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Interpret the distribution of disease in a population
  2. Identify, select, and evaluate data and information sources relevant to public health problems
  3. Determine appropriate uses and limitations of quantitative and qualitative data
  4. Determine appropriate data for establishing the need for specific public health programs
  5. Explore evidence-based recommendations for public health interventions
  6. Describe ethical principles to the collection, maintenance, use, and dissemination of data and information
  7. Obtain and interpret information regarding risks and benefits to the community
  8. Recognize how the data illuminates ethical, political, scientific, economic, and overall public health issues
