Registration and Continuing Education Credit: Registration is free to Wisconsin nurses given an access code through participation in the Linking Education and Practice for Excellence in Public Health Nursing Project (LEAP). For more information about LEAP visit: http://www.son.wisc.edu/leap.

The registration fee is $59 for all others.

The modules for this course are taken in order. When you successfully complete a module (i.e., pass the quiz), you will automatically receive access to the next one. After successful completion of all 8 course modules, you will receive a certificate of completion awarding 8.0 ANCC nursing contact hours and 0.8 CEUs.

Purpose
To assist public health nurses in developing the understanding, knowledge, and skills needed to become a culturally competent practitioner.

Target Audience
Practicing public health nurses in Wisconsin who are interested in moving towards cultural competence

Objectives
After completing this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Define culture and the impact on nursing care
  2. Identify theoretical models and frameworks that address the process of developing cultural competence
  3. Perform a cultural self-assessment to identify personal heritage, values, beliefs, practices, and behaviors
  4. Identify values, beliefs, behaviors, and practices of diverse populations
  5. Identify strategies for working with culturally diverse populations
  6. Define the role of social, behavioral, and cultural factors in population health
